Variant covers and signed comics are often the most valuable items in a collection. VerseDB lets you track these details precisely.
Marking a Comic as a Variant#
- Open the edit screen for your collection item
- Check the Is Variant checkbox
- Additional fields will appear
Linking to Database Variants#
If the variant exists in the VerseDB database, a variant selector will appear. Choose the specific variant cover from the list to link your item to the official variant record.
Variant Type#
Sixteen types are available. The ones you will reach for most:

| Standard | The regular, non-variant cover |
| Cover Variant | A general variant cover |
| Retailer Exclusive | Exclusive to a specific shop or chain |
| Convention Exclusive | Available only at conventions |
| Incentive Variant | Earned by ordering to a threshold |
| Ratio Variant | Tied to an order ratio such as 1:25 |
| Artist Variant | A named artist's edition |
| Foil, Sketch, Virgin, Blank, Hologram, Glow in the Dark | Production and finish variants |
| Facsimile | A modern reproduction of an older issue |
| Reprint | A later printing |
| Other | Anything the list doesn't cover |
Variant Description#
Add details specific to your copy: artist name, store or convention name, special finishes.
Recording Signatures#
- Check the Is Signed checkbox
- Additional authentication fields appear
Signature Witness#

Tip
A witnessed signature commands the highest premium. Note who signed the comic in the notes field either way, since an unwitnessed signature usually adds less value.
Note
Retailer exclusives often appreciate in value — record the shop name in the variant description.
