A mischievous young elephant, Yumbo headlined the Spanish children's magazine of the same name, launched in 1934 by the Barcelona publisher Hispano Americana de Ediciones. The character came from the British strip Jumbo Jim the Elephant, rebranded as Yumbo, el elefantito travieso.
