Katsuhiro Otomo is a Japanese manga artist and film director, born in 1954 in Miyagi Prefecture. He created Akira, serialized from 1982 to 1990, and wrote and directed the 1988 animated film drawn from it. He entered the Eisner Hall of Fame in 2012.
